Rotterdam city artists wanted in 2021

What will Rotterdam look like in 2021 in corona time?

More pop-up test and vaccination locations? Will the elections continue as usual and will we be allowed to gather again as a crowd and perhaps visit a festival or an exhibition live? What impact will the corona virus have on Rotterdam residents this year?

The Rotterdam City Archives and CBK Rotterdam are looking for the city artists of 2021: artists who will record the consequences of the corona crisis in and around the city in drawings.

Last year, the period between April and August was mapped out by the 2020 city designers.

In the coming period we will probably switch from lockdown to relaxation of the measures and maybe eventually back to the 'new normal' or the 'new old' or 'old normal'.

That is why we want to see which assignment is appropriate for each phase so that we can respond to developments that cannot yet be predicted.

The drawings will be presented in the Kunsthal at the end of the year. They will then be included in the collection of the Rotterdam City Archives, so that future generations can one day look back at the impact the corona crisis had on the daily lives of Rotterdammers.

This consists of:

• a motivation (max. 1 A4)
• a CV (max. 1 A4)
• visual material in the form of a link to your page artoffice.info or a digital portfolio of max. 20 MB.

A jury will choose from the entries. The jury consists of:

• Hugo Borst (Rotterdammer, art lover - and collector)
• Hedy Tjin (artist)
• Shehera Cave (Kunsthal)
• Jantje Steenhuis and Wanda Waanders (Rotterdam City Archives)
• About Lucas (CBK Rotterdam).

The fee for the city draftsman 2021 is € 5.000 per artist.
