With this immersive, dreamlike installation, the Quay Brothers introduce a number of scenes and motifs from their long-term project: a future feature film based on the novel Sanatorium Under the Sign of the Hourglas (1937) by the Polish writer Bruno Schultz. His Sanatorium is a floating universe, halfway between waking and sleeping, where morbid, ambiguous time cannot be measured by clocks. Stephen and Timothy QUAY (1947, USA) have been building an enigmatic, dark oeuvre since the XNUMXs that mainly includes stop-motion films, but also drawings, set designs and show boxes, full of literary references. In all their work, the brothers show a fascination for the twentieth-century culture and imagination of Central and Eastern Europe.
