Free Friday Night Art Walk with guest Boris van Berkum

change Friday 15 September along with the Friday Night Art Walk. Our special guest is Boris van Berkum, a Rotterdam artist who combines styles from different eras, cultures and religions in his work. He is a gifted speaker, so this promises to be an inspiring walk on the bond of spirituality and art.

As an exception, we start inside Melly with a visit to the exhibition Rotterdam Cultural Histories: Mama Aisa, which is all about winti culture. Boris van Berkum and Winti priestess Marian Markelo thus contribute to the representation of the Surinamese diaspora, culture and beliefs. During the visit, Van Berkum talks about the large statue of Mama Aisa, the wintry goddess who stands for love, compassion and inclusiveness.

His personal selection of public works of art takes us, led by guide Anne-Marie Ros, via the Westblaak past a work by Hans van Bentem to the work of De Artoonisten near the Markthal.
