Going Back to Forget

opening tonight

Going Back to Forget is curated by Anke Bangma and shows new and recent work by Kevin van Braak, Rabin Huissen, Sarojini Lewis, Sandim Mendes and Sara Rajaei. The artists trace their family histories, trying to hold on to time, envisioning memories they never got to hear, telling stories that need to be told today. During the opening DJ Richelle Soigni will be behind the turntable.

Loeki Metz and the Jewish monument in Rotterdam

Fifty years ago, sculptor Loeki Metz designed the first monument for Rotterdam that commemorated the loss of the Jewish community during the war years. In the publication Loeki Metz and the Jewish Monument in Rotterdam Siebe Thissen offers a new introduction to this special monument and its creation. The book is presented during Z-Files #20: Loeki Metz and the Jewish monument in Rotterdam.

Annette Kisling: Moved

In 2002 and 2003, the German artist Annette Kisling spent a year in Rotterdam as an artist-in-residence. She came across a richly varied and vibrant city. During her work period, several photo series were created that portray different areas within Rotterdam. In 2017 she returned and captured the changed Rotterdam in a photo series that can be seen from November 10 at the Goethe-Institut on the Westersingel.

I don't want a piss afterwards is a retrospective exhibition of work by the Rotterdam painter Ad Schouten, who died in July this year at the age of 71. Schouten is known for various works in public space, such as sculpture Future (2011) near the Slinge and the mural Irreversible (1994) in the Bloemfonteinstraat.

Theater maker Abhishek Thapar takes his audience back to the conflict in the Indian province of Punjab, in which his family also lost their home. In the performance he stimulates all senses, shows penetrating images and, with his talent for storytelling, manages to navigate in a moving way between the contradictory official versions of this history and the personal memories of three generations.

From his position (s) at CBK Rotterdam, he visited countless large and small exhibitions, events, lectures, presentations, etc. Recently Anton Hoeksema retired. TENT Welcomes ... MK Award

On Friday 17 November at 18 hours, an exhibition will open in TENT Rotterdam with work by Peter Fengler, Saskia Janssen and Ad de Jong, the nominees for the MK Award 2017. The prize with the value of 5.000 euro is awarded every two years for honest and coherent artistry as a homage to the ideas of Emmo Grofsmid and Karmin Kartowikromo, who are the owners of MK gallery.

For the second time, TENT Rotterdam and Tate Young People's Programs are working together hands-on on an exchange project for young creatives. Ten young people (18-25 yrs.) From Rotterdam and London participate in a program in which the question "Where does culture happen?" is central. There will be a closing event in TENT on Friday 24 November.

While hundreds of amateur videos of military aircraft and drones appear above Syria online every day, Sara Hamadeh sketches a picture of recent military history in which politics, technology and popular culture turn out to be interwoven. In this 'lecture performance' (in the context of Going Back to Forget) combines storytelling with archive materials and media images to make a connection between air war, the cockpit and the human role.

Anonymous Glossy

Efrat Zehavi presents her on Friday evening 15 December Anonymous Glossy a work of art disguised as a luxury magazine. This glossy is full of faux advertisements and portraits of people from Rotterdam, who tell about their experiences and desires. This presentation is part of the lively public program that runs parallel to the group exhibition Going Back to Forget takes place. Anonymous Glossy was realized with an R&D contribution from CBK Rotterdam.

LP now available

Jazz from R'JAM

On 20 October a new jazz album was presented in Rotown by presenter and program maker of RTV Rijnmond Roland Vonk. The album contains songs from legendary Rotterdam jazz celebrities. The LP Jazz from R'JAM was compiled by Vonk and was published by CBK Rotterdam. The LP costs € 15 and is available at Snoek, Vinyl Spot, Velvet Music Rotterdam, the Plaatboef and Demonfuzz Records, or via BKOR.

Alouardi Exchange Program

up to and including 31 / 12 / 2017

Aloardi was founded in Peru in 1998 and started as one of the first independent platforms in South and Central America to distribute and produce experimental music, media art, sound-related interventions and alternative acoustic studies. The Alouardi exchange with Rotterdam started on October 5. The program is developed from their residency at Pavilion ... on the water.
