Restored images and plans for new artworks

With this newsletter we inform you about all projects from BKOR (Visual Arts & Public Space) and Sculpture International Rotterdam.

Light artwork for Maashaven metro station

New sculptures for the Binnenrotte

Ben Zegers - "Everyone is dead except us"

Artist Ben Zegers (Utrecht, 1962) designed a new artwork for the Binnenrotte. The design consists of two elegantly turned aluminum 'feet', which are placed at some distance from each other. The artwork Everyone is dead except us refers among other things to the creation of the city around the now invisible 'dam' in the Rotte and is expected to be realized at the end of 2019.

Monumental design for the Schiedamseweg

Florentijn Hofman - 'Bospoldervos'

A project was started in 2016 to 'revitalize' Schiedamseweg. Part of this was the addition of visual art to the street scene. Under the direction of CBK Rotterdam, a design was chosen by artist Florentijn Hofman (Delfzijl, 1977). He designed the Forest fox, a monumental fox of 10 meters high and 14 meters long. The artwork is expected to be realized at the end of 2019.

Kleinpolderplein by night

A 'museum room' has been set up under the flyover on Kleinpolderplein. The statues that are there have lost their place in the city. They were made and placed since the reconstruction period, but with the change of the city they also lost their place, and sometimes their meaning. Aad Hoogendoorn took pictures of this museum room at night:

"That image may go away from me"

At the end of 2017, the AD already asked the question: What are we doing with Piet Hein now? The question is about the monument that the then independent municipality of Delfshaven had made of this seafarer at the end of the 19e century. Was Piet Hein really a controversial seafarer, or did he actually have anything to do with the slave trade?
