Dear artist,
As is known, we have also introduced a number of measures at CBK Rotterdam, in accordance with national guidelines to prevent further spread of the Corona virus. For example, TENT is closed to the public at least until April 6, we have suspended various public activities and a new date will also have to be sought for the planned project Paleis Maashaven (Sculpture International Rotterdam), which was to open on 28 May. We mainly work on this at home, but we can simply be reached by email look here for the contact details of our employees.
The current situation also has consequences for the activities of Art Office. We have temporarily suspended the implementation of the Incidental Contribution Abroad scheme (IBB), in line with the negative travel advice from the government. Other applications, for example for Testing Professionalism, Investment Contributions and City Activities, will be examined and assessed if there is priority and feasibility. As soon as circumstances permit, the schemes will of course be taken on pro-actively.
For the time being, applicants for a Research and Development Grant (R&D) in the first round of 2020 will receive written results before April 17 (no later than 8 weeks after the submission deadline). We were able to start the assessment before the current contact measures were taken. If this does not work due to new circumstances, the applicants will be informed immediately. It is also possible to send interim reports and deliveries to us, corresponding invoices will be paid urgently after the assessment.
In an earlier newsletter from us I wrote that it is becoming increasingly difficult for artists to keep their heads above water. A special development under the influence of the current situation is that concepts such as solidarity are gaining meaning again. All kinds of initiatives are underway to help artists and makers. CBK Rotterdam is open to initiatives and we will also take action where possible to keep Rotterdam artists at work. Also check our website where we collect important information for you.
We also took advantage of the Stadstekenaar 2020 project (from which the jury meeting had to be canceled) to commission three Rotterdam draughtsmen to record Rotterdam in times of Corona. Jury members Hedy Tjin, Shehera Grot and Hugo Borst gave lectures from their home workplace, on the basis of which the Rotterdam City Archives and CBK Rotterdam invited Erico Smit, Frank Stoks and Pris Roos to get started immediately. The jury report will be published after the weekend.
I am convinced that together we will be able to get through this difficult period.
Ove Lucas
director CBK Rotterdam
