Maashaven Palace

Under the title Maashaven Palace In the coming years, Sculpture International Rotterdam is developing a long-term international art project in Rotterdam-Zuid, consisting of the arrival of new artworks, exhibitions, lectures and other activities. With Maashaven Palace Sculpture International Rotterdam wants to generate attention for the qualities and potential of this part of Rotterdam, in collaboration with the residents, initiatives and artists in the neighborhood. The project started in 2017 with a branch at the Cultuurwerkplaats Tarwewijk of Stichting Zuidzijde, and was opened with the unveiling of the artwork moved to South The Idler's Playground.

Coolsingel images now in Tarwewijk

In addition to the sculpture by Cosima von Bonin, there are now three more images in Rotterdam South: The Husband of the Doll from Thom Puckey, Monsieur Jacques from Oswald Wenckebach and The knot from Shinkichi Tajiri. These works of art come from the Coolsingel and will remain in the semi-public courtyard of the Cultuurwerkplaats until 2021. The garden of the Cultuurwerkplaats is open on working days until October, between 11: 30 and 16: 00 hours.

New work Adrien Lucca for metro station Maashaven

Adrien Lucca is currently developing a light artwork for Maashaven Metro Station as part of the Maashaven Palace. Adrien Lucca (Paris, 1983) studied at the Brussels École de Recherche Graphique and was Jan Van Eyck Academy resident in Maastricht (2010-11). In his work he is very concerned with the effect of light. Earlier this year his work was shown in the exhibition Mémoire #2 White light researches / white light demons / white light demos in RIB.

Premiere Het Ding at Dutch Film Festival

In the observing film The Thing (Untitled, 1957), With elusive images and sounds, the sculpture by Naum Gabo at the Bijenkorf in Rotterdam is slowly becoming visible again during a months-long restoration. This documentary film by Mels van Zutphen was made by the artist on behalf of Sculpture International Rotterdam† The short film will have its premiere during the Netherlands Film Festival.
