CBK Rotterdam starts the new cultural season with good news. We are proud to announce that Anke Bangma will take over the artistic direction of TENT from 1 October. And we are happy that Naum Gabo's self-titled sculpture will be refurbished. We officially open the cultural season in the 2nd weekend of September with an extra long Art Evening in TENT; on Saturday and Sunday you can come and play the KNSTMPPN game on the Schouwburgplein. We also take the time to look back on Uproot Rotterdam. The activities have been completed and the sculpture park has since been dismantled, but fortunately we have the photos yet!

New artistic director TENT

Anke Bangma will be the new artistic director of TENT Rotterdam from 1 October 2016. As a contemporary art curator, she has worked at the Tropenmuseum in Amsterdam in recent years. Before that she was affiliated with the Piet Zwart Institute and Witte de With Center for Contemporary Art, both in Rotterdam.

Gabo is being refurbished

Restoration will take a year

Naum Gabo's artwork at Coolsingel is being restored. From the press release: "The municipality and the owner are aiming for a well-documented restoration, the aim of which is to restore the original appearance of the statue as much as possible." The Gabosingers will perform at the statue on Friday, they will perform a song of praise at work.

2017 deadlines announced

The deadline for the last R&D round of 2016 is Friday, September 9, 2016 until 23:00 PM. The dates for the new R&D rounds in 2017 are now also known: the first round will close on Friday 27 January at 23 p.m., the second on Friday 00 May at 19 p.m., and the third round on Friday 23 October at 00:27 PM.

Kunstblock opens UITdagen

Art evening XL in TENT

During the opening of the cultural season on Friday 9 September Kunstblock out with an Art Evening XL. All art institutions in the Witte de Withstraat are open until 00:00 this evening and can be visited free of charge. Two performance acts can be seen in TENT. The Art Evening XL also marks the start of a weekly Art Evening of the Kunstblock partners.

The new edition is from 8 September Rotterdam Cultural Histories to be viewed in the shared space on the 1st floor of TENT and Witte de With; the 9th exhibition in this series looks back on Manifesta 1, the first edition of the traveling European biennale that took place in Rotterdam in June-August 1996.

A number of local associations and companies from the neighborhoods where the artworks were uprooted organized activities in the Museum Park. There was a 50+ bingo from Cultural Center Larenkamp, a public salsa lesson from 4Salsa from Hoogvliet and Mr. Dutch BV language training.

Studio Makkink & Bey collaborated with the museum neighbors of the Museum Park and programmed exclusive activities during Uproot Rotterdam. There were guided tours through the Kunsthal and the Chabot Museum, and Het Nieuwe Instituut and Museum Boijmans van Beuningen organized workshops.

Founders of new initiatives in Rotterdam enter into discussions with policy makers and subsidizers about their motives and the way in which they keep their heads above water.
