Reconstruction art on the Rotterdamse Schouwburg media wall

up to and including 29 / 11 / 2015

Since Z-Files #13 about Louis van Roode on Thursday 29 October, a presentation of the various works of art that were realized in Rotterdam between 1945 and 1970 can be seen on the media wall in the foyer of the Rotterdamse Schouwburg. The slideshow on reconstruction art shows how Louis van Roode played a leading role in this period, and what his contemporaries such as Wally Elenbaas, Dick Elffers and Gust Romijn meant at the time. The presentation was put together by Caro van der Pluijm (BKOR) and edited by Ferdinand Ronteltap & stage team. The presentation can be seen until November 29.

Monument for TG Masaryk and Rotterdam

In October 1914, in what was then the Weimar Hotel on the Spaansekade in Rotterdam, history was written by philosopher and politician TG Masaryk; there he sketched the contours of the new country of Czechoslovakia. Today, 5 November 2015, a little more than 100 years later, the monument designed by artist Hans Citroen is being erected at virtually the same location on the Geldersekade. TG Masaryk and Rotterdam revealed.

The Art Evening takes place every first Friday of the month and is organized by Kunstblock; the alliance of art institutions in the Witte de Withkwartier.

New application round R&D scheme

The Development and Research Subsidies (R&D subsidy) scheme is aimed at stimulating new research and deepening, so that existing artist practices can develop optimally and their visibility in the city can be increased. The next submission date is 10 November 2015: Artists can then submit their application between 10:00 AM and 16:00 PM in the TENT auditorium.

CBK Material Fund now CBK Fonds Kwadraat

The Material Fund has a new name: Fonds Kwadraat† The CBK Material Fund has also changed and is now called the CBK Fund Kwadraat. With the new name, the fund wants to make it clear that it does not only provide loans for equipment, but for much more. Such as for an exhibition at home or abroad, a publication, a residency, a prototype and for equipment needed to create new work. The next deadline is November 13.

Biweekly tour: the Coolsingel as a Monument

Every two weeks Sculpture International Rotterdam offers a tour of the Coolsingel on Sunday afternoon with the architecture guide Marly Weemen. Central to this walk are the masterpieces from the SIR collection, including reconstruction art, architecture and dozens of ornaments. In 1,5 the Coolsingel as a Monument shows past, present and the uncertain future of this boulevard, where art, architecture and ornament form a common thread.

The Third Tuesday

Where should you go next month? Kunstblock presents the cultural talk show The Third Tuesday, which will give you a high speed update in one and a half hour with short interviews, performances, film reviews, theater scenes and live music. The presentation is in the hands of Anna Visser, and the special guest this month is Elfie Tromp. The Third Tuesday is taking place in TENT this time.

De Handwissel: Monument for the train traffic on South

20/11/2015

De Handwissel will be unveiled on 20 November; a monument to the train traffic that once ran through Rotterdam South. Until then, train traffic was an important part of the Zuid street scene. On the initiative of local residents, an important manual change was preserved. Together with BKOR they approached Nico Parlevliet: he designed a new base for the monument.

On Sunday 29 November at 14:00 PM, you will walk with writer Vincent Cardinal through the Motion /Labour /Machinery exhibition in TENT. He talks to the visitors about the works in the exhibition and zooms in on the question; is Rotterdam really still a working-class city? Vincent Cardinal writes for the magazine Humo, Nieuwe Revu and NRC Handelsblad, among others. In addition, he is one of the people behind Fresh Concrete.
