Debate night 2016

Debates will take place in Arminius all evening and night long on Friday 9 December from 19:00. In a debate at 23 p.m. in the Bovenzaal, CBK Rotterdam, together with Vers Beton, Het Nieuwe Instituut and Chabot Museum, will reflect on Rotterdam as an increasingly rapidly changing city. It's every Friday Art evening in the Witte de Withkwartier. Discover the versatility of contemporary art in the Rotterdam art quarter at TENT, Witte de With, WORM, V2 and MAMA and art in the public space of CBK Rotterdam: from visual art to music, from photography to film and more. The institutions are open free of charge every Friday evening between 18 and 21 p.m.

In December 2016, a light artwork by Eddy Kaijser (Studio ID Eddy & WORKSHOP IV) will be on display in the hall of Rotterdam CS. “In the dark winter days we bring the light, energy and poetry of the star to the central station. ” 'Van de Kozmoz' was made possible by the Dutch Railways and an investment contribution from CBK Rotterdam.

Sculptures. Urban embellishment in Rotterdam since 1940 is a book about 75 years of reconstruction in Rotterdam, in which the emergence and growth of the Rotterdam sculpture collection are outlined. With over 1.000 artworks and monuments, that collection is unique in the Netherlands. Siebe Thissen, (head of BKOR), describes how Rotterdam became a real sculpture city.

Dolf Henkes Price 2016

Artists Daan Botlek, Rana Hamadeh, Rory Pilgrim and Katarina Zdjelar have been nominated for the Dolf Henkes Prize 2016. The prize is awarded every two years by the Henkes Foundation to an iconic Rotterdam artist. The exhibition with the work of the nominees will take place in TENT from Thursday 15 December 2016 to 19 February 2017. The winner will be announced during Art Rotterdam.

The artwork of Naum Gabo on Coolsingel will be restored in 2017, but Sculpture International Rotterdam continues with its tribute to this special constructivist sculpture, once a landmark of a radiantly modern boulevard. In December there are performances by Maaike Mae and de Haringkoppen.

View the past, present and uncertain future of the Coolsingel, in which art, architecture and ornaments form a common thread. The tour lasts approximately 1,5 hours (departure point in front of the City Hall) and is given on Saturday December 17, Friday December 30, Saturday January 14 and Friday January 27 at 16:30 PM.

On Thursday 22 December an annual closing will take place at the Geldersekade: a concert of midwinter hornblowers and ship's horns. From the roof of the White House, midwinter horn blowers, together with the horns of boats in the Oude Haven, will play a piece of music by Alberto Granados Reguilón, student of Codarts Rotterdam.

In recent years, Rotterdam artists have realized projects around the world. CBK Rotterdam contributed to these projects with the Incidental Contribution Abroad Scheme (IBB), including international artist-in-residencies, exhibitions and exchanges. Artists who are registered with the Art Office can claim this scheme.

Artist-in-residency Dresden

Also in 2017, an artist-in-residence program offers a visual artist from Rotterdam the opportunity to stay in Dresden for two months. The aim of this fair is to offer the artist-in-residence the opportunity to get to know the local art world, to make contacts and to deepen them, to exchange ideas and advice.
The grant must be used from 5 May to 5 July 2017.

The Spectator

On Friday January 13, the illustrious annual auction of De Ziechouw will take place in the gym of TENT. Thirty works of art by contemporary artists, photographers and designers including Olphaert den Otter, Anouk Griffioen, Willem Besselink and Ruben Dario Kleimeer will be auctioned this evening. The proceeds will be used for De Ziechouw: the weekly changing exhibitions in the showcase of Café De Schouw.
