THE COOLSINGEL AS A MONUMENT
|

Every two weeks Sculpture International Rotterdam offers a guided tour on the Coolsingel on Sunday afternoons with the architecture guide Marly Weemen. Central to this walk are the highlights from the SIR collection, including reconstruction art, architecture and dozens of ornaments. The Coolsingel as a Monument, 1,5 shows time past, present and the uncertain future of this boulevard, where art, architecture and ornament form a common thread. The tour fictionally covers this unique boulevard Monument and is part of Tribute to an Avenue, the multi-year program for the Coolsingel.

Z-Files #13 Louis van Roode

Z-Files # 13 is dedicated to sculptor, graphic artist and painter Louis van Roode (Rotterdam 1914-1964). The reason is the restoration of the mural in the Olvehflat, one of the ten flats belonging to the national monument the Lijnbaan ensemble. Van Roode played a particularly important role in the reconstruction art of Rotterdam. Z-Files is a live talk show where art, public space and the city are discussed.

One of the most beautiful avenues in Rotterdam is currently the stage for fourteen sculptures and forty-five flags specially designed for this occasion by as many artists. Arte Concordia 2015 transforms the avenue, from Oostzeedijk to Oudedijk, into a magnificent sculpture park full of festive beauty. But not without questions and challenges. Arte Concordia 2015 can be visited until Sunday 11 October. Take a detour, grab the bike and come and see!

The submission date for the next application round for the R&D scheme is 10 November 2015. The Development and Research Subsidies (R&D subsidy) scheme aims to boost research and deepening, so that existing artist practices can develop optimally and their visibility in the city can be enlarged. Consultation hours for this round will take place on Tuesday 3 and Wednesday 4 November. Register via Art Office.

TENT presents the solo exhibition of Nicky Assmann. The focus is on a majestic moving light installation that occupies the entire front room. Assmann combines knowledge from science, technology and art in spatial installations in which the sensory experience is central. She uses light, mechanics and abstract geometry to create optical phenomena with which she investigates the mental and physical perception process.
