CBK R'DAM makes possible

State of the City

Because we consider internationalization important for a good 'art climate' in the city, it becomes the international residency program Paviljoen aan het Water in Rotterdam South supported by CBK Rotterdam. Work by the former residents will be exhibited there on 21 April. With works by: Stijn Van Dorpe (B), Levent Kunt (D), Élise Guihard (F), Silvio Palladino (IT), Josephine Baan (NL), Robert Carter (UK), Ben Mills (UK) & Marc Atkinson ( UK).

TENT Welcomes

Nicola Unger

With TENT Welcomes In addition to its own programming and productions, TENT offers space for projects looking for a temporary public platform. On Friday April 28, TENT will welcome artist Nicola Unger. She will present video sketches of her work Transmission to the public at 18.00 pm. For this project Unger researched genetic and cultural transmission within generations.

L'homme qui marche returned

L'Homme qui marche, the sculpture by Auguste Rodin on the Westersingel returned to his pedestal on Tuesday evening 4 April. The work was temporarily given on loan to the exhibition between October 2016 and March 2017 Degas und Rodin - The Race of the Giants towards the Modern in Wuppertal, Germany. Sandim Mendes - panu terra | terra panu

up to and including 30 / 04 / 17

panu terra | terra panu is the title of the first solo exhibition by artist Sandim Mendes (NL/CV, 1986) in exhibition space Tetem in the old textile city of Enschede. Pano de terra indicates the typical beaten fabrics that are woven on the Cape Verde islands. Mendes realized some of the works in the exhibition with the support of an R&D contribution from CBK Rotterdam.

Giuseppe Licari - Schlak

In the solo exhibition Schlak, Giuseppe Licari shows his research into the relationship between man and nature. In one of the most important mining areas of the European steel industry, he collected as a geologist the rocks that remain as a residual product after the iron has been melted with 1535˚C.

Customs and Claims - Julien Grossmann

up to and including 14 / 05 / 17

Sculptural sound works play a leading role in this first solo exhibition by Julien Grossmann in the Netherlands. Grossmann ingeniously transforms musical instruments and sound equipment, draws on sound recordings from the beginning of the 20 century to the present, and makes surprising connections with histories of culture and globalization.

Les Petites Peurs

On 20 and 21 in May 2017, during the art route South Explorer you can see the exhibition Les Petites Peurs by the Rotterdam artist SPAM van Griensven in the Japanese cultural center Shofukan. In a Wunderkammer, or curiosity cabinet, a large collection of small lifelike animal figures can be admired.

Rotterdam artists Natalia Sorzano, Pilar Mata Dupont, Toine Horvers, Pendar Nabipour, Rory Pilgrim, Robert Glas, Joana Chicau, Cihad Caner, Marit Shalem, Marielle Buitendijk, Katarina Zdjelar, Folke Janssen and Anita Hrnic, Diana Roig, Seecum Cheung received a contribution in the first round of the 2017 R&D scheme. The deadline for the second round of 2017 is Friday 19 May 2017.

Homage Marten Toonder returns

Homage Marten Toonder returns! The work was absent for some time due to the restructuring of the Binnenrotte. On Tuesday 2 May - the 105th birthday of Marten Toonder - the Artoonists (consisting of the artists Hans van Bentem, Luuk Bode, Pepijn van den Nieuwendijk and Boris van Berkum aka DJ Chantelle) will once again go theatrically to celebrate his mastery.

Castellers Rotterdam

On Noordereiland and Schouwburgplein, human towers will be built on 6 and 7 in May. Castells, built of eight floors. Build this one Castells is on the UNESCO World Heritage List of Intangible Heritage. In addition to the nearly 150 Castellers who come over from Catalonia, hundreds of other people are needed to help prop up the tower. How? You will learn this in special workshops from 2 to 5 May.

Cinema Olanda - Wendelien van Oldenborgh

The presentation Cinema Olanda by visual artist Wendelien van Oldenborgh (1962) and curator Lucy Cotter (1973) was selected by the Mondriaan Fund as the Dutch entry for the 57th edition of the Venice Biennale. The presentation consists of three film works. One of the films, Cinema Olanda, was recorded in Pendrecht and was partly supported by CBK Rotterdam.

International Sculpture Route Amsterdam

Rotterdam works of art after ArtZuid

19/05/17 - 17/09/17

The fifth edition of the Amsterdam International Sculpture Biennale, ARTZUID 2017, will take place from 19 May to 17 September 2017. Curator Rudi Fuchs presents 60 abstract images of post-war artists around the Zuidas in Amsterdam South. Three Rotterdam works of art by Joost Baljeu, Piet Killaars and Gust Romijn are temporarily on loan for this exhibition.

It is Art Night every Friday night in the Witte de Withkwartier. Discover the versatility of contemporary art in the Rotterdam art quarter at TENT, Witte de With, WORM, V2 and MAMA and art in the public space of CBK Rotterdam: from visual art to music, from photography to film and more!
