Looking back at the unveiling of the 'Razzia Monument'

Since November 10, Rotterdam has had a monument in memory of all victims of the raid that took place on November 10 and 11, 1944. BKOR congratulates the initiators René Versluis and Jan Willem Cleijpool of the Razzia Monument Rotterdam foundation and artist Anne Wenzel with the creation of the Razzia Monument and looks back with pride on a special journey.

In the initial phase of the process, in which a choice was made for the artist, BKOR was advised by curator Charlotte Martens. After the draft round, Anne Wenzel was chosen unanimously. BKOR then guided the initiators and the artist during the entire development, implementation and delivery of the project. In collaboration with the municipality of Rotterdam, work has been done on a unique embedding of the sculpture group on location, resulting in a renewed landscape design on the Parkkade.

Marjolijn van der Meijden, BKOR project leader: “After the unveiling, Rotterdam received a new work of art that was immediately worn as a monument. It became clear during the project that the war past still has such an enormous impact on generations. Since the unveiling, we have seen that Anne Wenzel's group of statues at the beautiful location on Parkkade is being frequently visited and examined. I of course hope that this work of art will continue to move people long into the future.”
