Studio Art Office | This is how you do it #2: finance your fee

You have a fantastic idea, you work with great people and you have found a great location to show your artistic plan to the world! But do you also think about yourself? With the Practice Contribution from CBK Rotterdam you can submit an application for your own fee. How does that work and what are the conditions?

On Wednesday, November 22, 2023, Studio Art Office is organizing the second edition of 'This is how you do it', an afternoon about realizing your artistic plans. This time we will discuss the Practical Contribution in more detail: the accessible scheme for projects with a public character. Three Rotterdam artists talk about their project, are asked about their approach and of course show their work.

Shardenia Felicia made Memory, a stop-motion film about her life as a mother of two young children. The film serves as a boost for her and other mothers who have put aside dreams for motherhood. At the same time, Felicia wants to show them that life is not over yet. Thanks to the practical contribution, Felicia did not stop at the film alone, but also organized a mother and child-friendly exhibition meeting.

Florian Braakman started in 2017 with his project 'Brother'. When Braakman was addressed on the street as 'brother', he asked the passer-by if he could make a portrait of him. The photo series shows the power of making contact, of building community between strangers. Thanks to the Practice Contribution, Braakman was able to show his project at the Jakarta International Photography Festival.

Valentina Vella received a practical contribution for her musical project 'Netherworld', which she also performed to the public. Vella made an electronic album with poetic stories about personal and social crises. Whether it concerns atrocities caused by neoliberal capitalism or the passive-aggressive behavior of housemates: Vella expresses her desire for a different world during this meeting with a performance.
