Open call for facade artwork at Het Epos primary school

Primary school Het Epos is launching an open call in collaboration with CBK Rotterdam and Droom en Daad. Rotterdam artists are asked to submit a design for a facade artwork for the new school building in Zuidwijk, Rotterdam.

Het Epos primary school is a special school where the emphasis is on community, curiosity, perseverance, growth, achievement and happiness. With a social objective and financed from private resources, Het Epos, together with parents and teachers, builds the best possible education for children in Zuidwijk.

In the autumn of 2025, Het Epos will move into its new home in the Rotterdam district. The school building, designed by KAW architects, has a facade with room for a large work of art measuring 24,5 by 6 meters and around the corner there is another space of 15 by 6 meters. The work of art must reflect the fame, architecture and function of the school building, as well as the identity and culture of Zuidwijk.

Artists who live or work in Rotterdam can submit a sketch design from February 1 to April 18 via the website of The Epic. The students of Het Epos and the residents of Zuidwijk then choose which work of art will adorn the facade.

The assignment for the realization of the new work of art in the public space in Rotterdam Zuidwijk is an initiative of the Epos Education Rotterdam Foundation, in collaboration with CBK Rotterdam, Droom en Daad, Stichting de Verre Bergen, Heijmans and KAW Architecten.
