ARTWORK ANDRÉ VOLTEN REPLACED ON THE DORDTSELAAN

CBK Rotterdam is located in the vicinity of the Maashaven metro station Sculpture International Rotterdam active with the art program since 2018 Maashaven Palace† Due to corona we have not been able to run this program since 2020.

At the beginning of this year we started again with four radio broadcasts from the Gemaal op Zuid. All that under the title Radio Palace Maashaven† For example, a spectacular meeting was the unveiling of the artwork Fountain Maashaven. This fountain sprays water into the Maashaven at unexpected moments. The artwork is by Jeroen Jongeleen, who lives in Charlois.

We also have another plan for a work of art! This concerns a special and monumental statue of the artist André Volten. We will place his artwork from 1964 in the vicinity of the Maashaven metro station. We are very happy that we were able to save it from the hands of the ironmonger during the demolition of a primary school in Schiebroek. Because it is an important work of art by a special artist, we have had it beautifully restored.

We are delighted that we have found a beautiful spot in the central reservation of Dordtselaan in close collaboration with the Municipality of Rotterdam (Urban Development). The eight-meter high artwork can be seen from a great distance and therefore acts as a kind of marker in the neighborhood and the city.

The artist

Artist André Volten (Andijk, 1925-Amsterdam, 2002) was one of the most important post-war Dutch sculptors. In the fifties and sixties of the last century his work was characteristic of the new developments within Dutch art. He has created seven works of art for Rotterdam.
