BKOR and SIR present Art Route Rotterdam, from Price to Price
BKOR and SIR, in collaboration with Kunsthal Rotterdam, present a new art route based on the exhibition Thomas J. Price. Matter of Place, which will be on display from October 5, 2024 to February 9, 2025. Art route Rotterdam, from Price to Price is a walk along fourteen works of art in the center of Rotterdam. The route starts at the workreaching out (2020), which can be seen temporarily in front of the entrance to the Kunsthal during the exhibition, based on the much-discussed Moments Contained on the Stationsplein. Of course, the route can also be walked the other way around, from the Stationsplein to the Kunsthal. The booklet, which can be downloaded from this website from 5 October, contains texts by art historian and writer Sandra Smets. Art Route Rotterdam, from Price to Price is available free of charge at Kunsthal Rotterdam and Rotterdam Tourist Info at Central Station.
In his sculptures, Thomas J Price is concerned with recognition in today's society. He confronts us with stereotypes surrounding representation and identity in traditional statues, such as those on this route. This art historical journey through time shows how diverse artists' views on the human figure have been and how they played with visual languages to give the viewer some 'mental homework'. There is a political tinge to the statues of Johan van Oldenbarnevelt en Gijsbert Karel van Hogendorp, terwijl Monsieur Jacques by Oswald Wenckebach depicts the ordinary citizen. This artistically challenging company is a small sample of the special Rotterdam sculpture collection.

About our art routes
The theme of Art Route Rotterdam, from Price to Price, the human figure, is just one of the many subjects of the more than one thousand works of art in the public space that Rotterdam is rich in. With this, the city has a globally unique art collection, which is accessible 24 hours a day. In recent years, BKOR has created various art routes, which lead past many works of art spread throughout the city. All routes are offered as a PDF in Dutch and English via this website, but a (foldable) map is also still available for free at Rotterdam Tourist Information on the Stationsplein. The routes have also been made accessible for your mobile phone without having to download an app. Go to www.bkor.nl/routes, select the route you want to walk or cycle, and see where you are on the map.
