Z-Files # 28: Waterworks

Waterworks, the 28th edition of Z-Files - Art and the City - will take place on Thursday 3 September 2020 at Buitenplaats Brienenoord. The premiere of Maud van den Beuken's video One to One (Mississippi River) en the art project Waterworks van Buitenplaats Brienenoord - which will start in October - gave rise to this complete program about water and how to deal with it.

Art project Waterworks

The Maas is a true natural phenomenon that connects and divides Rotterdam. A tidal park is now being constructed on Brienenoord Island to show what the river does between our quays. Buitenplaats Brienenoord developed the Water Weeks art project together with Maurice Meewisse. This project will start in October and will last one and a half years, during which various artists will offer an alternative image of our way of dealing with water in three months.

One of them is Maud van den Beuken. In this Z-Files we watch, among other things, the premiere of her video showing how last year she conserved the Mississippi with Wim Balvert of the Rotterdam company Van Oord and made it cross the North Atlantic Ocean. True We, the people of water (2019) may live more harmoniously in the future than now in the city. And finally, the initiators of Waterworks will have a brief conversation with Laurence Peels (project manager Getijdenpark), after which Maurice Meewisse will conclude with a performance.

Z-Files, Art and the city

De CBK Rotterdamprograms BKOR en Sculpture International Rotterdam collaborate intensively to strengthen and renew the Rotterdam public space. They organize regularly Z-Files (with the S of Zadkine) about art and the city in which art, public space and the city are discussed through lectures, presentations and excursions. The aim of the program is to bring the special collection of artworks to the attention of the public space of Rotterdam and to highlight current developments in the city.
