Location: Museum MORE, Gorssel

The Rotterdam artist Kees Timmer (1903-1978) was a gifted draftsman, graphic artist and sculptor. Famous are the self-portraits, but especially his representations with animals, in which he gives a particularly vulnerable picture of the world (and himself). "There are few figurative painters in Dutch art after 1945 that match the level of Kees Timmer'wrote critic Carel Blotkamp, who as curator recently showed a number of works by Timmer in Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen. Museum More (Gorssel) will open an overview exhibition of the work of Kees Timmer on 23 September.

The catalog for this exhibition was compiled by the Clio Foundation in Rotterdam, set up to promote the work of the post-war generation of Rotterdam artists. The Kees Timmer publication is the first overview work by the artist. His paintings, drawings, graphics, sculptures and monumental works of art are successively exhibited. There are essays by Carel Blotkamp, Gerard Reve, Dick Hillenius, Heleen de Jong, Jeroen Giltaij and Dingenus de Vrie. CBK Rotterdam contributed to the catalog with an investigation into the work of Kees Timmer in public space.

The CLIO Rotterdam Foundation presents the book on 13 September CHOOSE TIMMER. This presentation takes place in TENT, and will contain contributions from Rob de Moes (editor of the book), Hans Walgenbach (chairman of the CLIO Rotterdam foundation), Dingenus van de Vrie, Jeroen Giltaij with a short film of Frans Peter Verheijen en Cor Otte. The first copy of the book is offered to son Jan Timmer (subject to change) and Sjaak Spoorendonk.
