STREET PARADE ALIDA DORS

TENT is taking part in the Rotterdam Summer Carnival for the third time. This time, choreographer Alida Dors is making a parade inspired by the role of dance in Afro-Caribbean funeral procession. The Alida Dors parade connects a hip-hop idiom with the role of dance in Afro-Caribbean funeral procession. In it, loved ones are brought to the grave as a sign of reverence and respect with stirring dance and music, to shake off evil spirits and to celebrate life. Dors connects the form of dancing goodbye with the protest culture of hip hop. She lets her dancers say goodbye to a repressed position and carry to the grave what keeps them from being who they want to be.
