Architecture has an impact on the human voice. The urban environment not only influences what we hear but also how we can make our own voice heard. Mercedes Azpilicueta and John Bingham-Hall investigate through vocal experiments. They made sound recordings in three locations in Rotterdam with specific acoustics: the Wilhelminapier metro station, the Maas tunnel and the Mevlanaplein railway viaduct with its forest and concrete columns.

In the exhibition Post-Opera Azpilicueta and Bingham-Hall translated their experiments into patterns on textile, on which they marked architectural elements and sketched the dynamics of voices that arose therein. The canvases seem to reveal invisible bodies that become tangible through the voices that pop out of them.
