4X4 / COUNTERBODY

4X4

Thomas Trum, Jaya Pelupessy, Nazif Lopulissa and Janine van Oene present 4×4 as a collective of ambitious artists who want to redefine their playing field and push the boundaries of ways of working and exhibiting.

With all four artists showing either one large work or an installation piece made up of several works, 4×4 celebrates the making of art without constraints imposed by the art fair model and shows the work of these artists in stark contrast to the way on which it will be presented simultaneously in the stands at Art Rotterdam. Just as GÆA Studio at De Achtertuin offers a unique setting, 4×4 brings an encounter with art, both exciting for the visitor and for the exhibiting artists.

COUNTERBODY

The theme of 'the body' has always been prominent in artists' artistic practices. Their groundbreaking research, their drive and instinct compelled them to discuss and demonstrate the taboo of physicality, as well as the many inconvenient and unspoken matters that have often been overlooked in the past.

With this premise in mind, the Counterbodies exhibition aims to refocus attention on this still controversial theme. The exhibition aims to adopt a different, more daring attitude towards the many views and perspectives on the theme of 'the body' and the way in which it is shaped in the practices of contemporary artists.

The participating artists are: Alice Lucchinelli (IT) | Daleen Bloemers (NL) | Guda Koster (NL) | Jessica Strixner (DE) | Karin Arink (NL) | Kim Van Erven (NL) | Kira Froese (DE) | Lizan Freijsen (NL) | Margiet van Breevort (NL) | Natalia Grezina (CR) | Rachel de Joode (NL) | Silvia B (NL)
