BKOR BIKE TOUR: art from Overschie to Rotterdam Central
On Sunday 29 September from 10.30:13.00-XNUMX:XNUMX BKOR is organising a bike tour focusing on works of art and architecture from the reconstruction period. We will meet at the corner of Vliegveldstraat/Airportbaan. Art guide Anne-Marie Ros will take you on a bike tour through Overschie, past Kleinpolderplein, Diergaarde Blijdorp and the Stationssingel, ending at Rotterdam Centraal. Along the way we will stop at a surprising selection of architectural buildings and work by artists such as André Volten, Lucien den Arend, Anne Mieke Backer, Gust Romijn and Helena van der Kraan. All these images are also included in our latest Rotterdam Art Route, from Central Station to Overschie.
Overschie
Shortly after the Second World War, this part of Rotterdam grew into an important part of the city. Rotterdam was struggling with a housing shortage and the new economy also needed space. That is why, from the fifties onwards, many houses, schools and shops were built in Overschie at a rapid pace. Due to the brand-new system construction, Overschie became an architectural testing ground. It became an urban district with peace, space and harmony. So much so that when the houses deteriorated at the end of the last century, architects protested against demolition: go renovate. Because although the old village had been swallowed up by progress, Overschie had become a time machine that takes us back to the ideals of progress of the fifties.

About our art routes
In recent years, BKOR has created various art routes, which lead past many works of art throughout the city. All routes are offered as PDFs in Dutch and English via this website, but a foldable map is also still available free of charge at Rotterdam Tourist Information on Stationsplein. The routes have also been made accessible to your mobile phone without having to download an app. Go to www.bkor.nl/routes, select the route you want to walk or cycle, and see where you are on the map. Have fun walking or cycling!
Rotterdam Art Route, from Central Station to Overschie was created in collaboration with Platform Wederopbouw Rotterdam.
