Route Various locations in the center of Rotterdam

Art & Architecture

The Rotterdam city center is rich in reconstruction architecture and art. Reliefs, glass-in-concrete and mosaics are beautifully integrated into the architecture. Until today, there is a unique relationship between the design of the city and the prominent place of visual art in public space. A special route map guides you through the art in post-war Rotterdam, from Central Post with Louis van Roode's light cathedral to the Markthal with Arno Coenen's food cathedral. The story of the development of the new city center is told through the streets, squares, buildings and works of art; 75 years of Rotterdam in a nutshell. The route was realized on the initiative of and in collaboration with BKOR and Sculpture International Rotterdam. The route will be launched during Z-Files # 12 on Friday 28 August in WORM, Institute for Avant-garde Recreation, Rotterdam.

Tip: during the Art festival in the Witte de Withkwartier, OMI (Office for Metropolitan Information) organizes bicycle tours with the new route map as a starting point. A guide takes you on a journey of discovery through the city center, with a focus on art, culture and architecture. A visit to one of the buildings is part of the tour.
