25 years of Srebrenica commemorated

exhibition: 18 / 07 / 2020 - 29 / 08 / 2020
Location: Laurenskerk

On Saturday July 18, Peter Koole's exhibition SREBRENICA opens. Koole worked on a series of paintings for fifteen years, ten of which will soon be shown in the Laurenskerk.

On July 11, 1995, 25 years ago, the Srebrenica enclave fell in the former Yugoslavia. Thousands of men and boys were murdered within days. Srebrenica was a UN-guaranteed safe area. For the Netherlands, the fall of Srebrenica remains a scar in its history because the soldiers present were Dutch.

The events in Srebrenica are at the heart of it the Rotterdam painter Peter Koole. In the series of paintings, all kinds of aspects of the fall, the genocide and the aftermath are discussed. His paintings are a monument to the victims and surviving relatives. "Srebrenica should never be forgotten."

SCREBRENICA / Peter Koole, paintings can be seen from July 18 to August 29 in the Laurenskerk in Rotterdam. For tickets and times please visit the Laurenskerk website.

The exhibition was realized in collaboration with CBK Rotterdam.
