Residency Guangzhou 2019

Root Rotterdam Foundation, Art23 Contemporary Art Gallery and CBK Rotterdam are starting a residency program at Art2019 in Guangzhou (People's Republic of China) in 23. An exhibition is also associated with the residency. The exhibition will be developed in collaboration with curator Angela Li during the stay period. Art23 is an exhibition space set up with the aim of promoting international exchanges and promoting (international) contemporary art in China. See further: Art23

The residence period is approximately 3 months (end of October through end of December 2019). A shorter stay is possible in consultation, but never shorter than 2 months. During the residency you will stay in the Art23 space.

Lounge with workshop in the center of Guangzhou. Guangzhou is a city with 14,5 million inhabitants, located in the largest metropolitan region of the world (62 million inhabitants in an area half the size of the Netherlands). The Art23 location covers a total of three floors and a large basement room with workshop with basic facilities. The residency is on the first floor, on the ground floor there is a toilet and shower. The stay is funded by Art23. You will also receive an amount of € 3.000 from CBK Rotterdam to cover your travel costs, visa and transport costs for any work. In Guangzhou, the costs for hospitality and public transport are relatively low.

Only artists who are registered with CBK Rotterdam are eligible. The guest artist is responsible for applying for the visa in time. Good command of the English language is highly recommended. Afterwards a written (N / E) and visual report of the experiences during the guest stay is requested to be used for any publications. The nature of the work of the guest artist is taken into account in the assessment.

Selection procedure
In summary 1 / 2 A4 or a video (5 minutes maximum) showing a motivation for the residency at Guangzhou and Art23. Supplemented with a resume and clear portfolio (PDF) and a URL of the artist website. Send before 16 June 2019 to gastatelier@cbkrotterdam.nl.

Judging takes place July 2019, in collaboration with all parties involved. The result will then be announced to all participating artists as soon as possible.
