2019 city designers wanted

The City Archives and CBK Rotterdam are looking for the Rotterdam city designers of 2019

After a successful pilot project in 2018 in which ten Rotterdam artists captured ten different buildings by Rotterdam architect Hugh Maaskant, the City Archives and CBK Rotterdam decided to restore an old tradition and to commission a number of artists to capture the city each year.

We call on artists from Rotterdam to submit documentation on the basis of which a jury makes a choice for a maximum of three artists who are asked to make drawings based on a theme (a preference can be indicated).

The themes for 2019 are:

Urban / Street Culture
Hip hop lifestyle, young people. Music (rap, DJs), dance (street / break dance), sports (skateboarding, freerunning), art (graffiti / street art), poetry (spoken word), fashion. For example Hiphop House Delftsestraat, Schieblock, Skatepark Westblaak, Urban Sports Park Hoogvliet, but also what happens 'unorganized' on the street.

Urban agriculture - pioneers in the city
RotterZwam, Dakakker Schieblock, Vredestuin Pompenburg (Hofbogen), Uit je eigen Stad, Spoortuin and Pluktuin Essenburgsingel / future Essenburgpark, Rotterdam Mint (South), urban beekeepers.

Sports clubs and activities
Sports venues of all kinds, on a large and small scale: for example, stadium, fields, sports hall, swimming pool, boxing school, cricket ground, petanque courts, Cruyff Courts. User / promotion by children, adults, professionals, volunteers.

Documentation can be sent to 28 February at the latest stadstekenaars2019@cbkrotterdam.nl. The documentation consists of a motivation (maximum 1 A4), a CV (maximum 1 A4) and images in the form of a link to your page on rotterdamsekunstenaars.nl or to your own website or a digital portfolio of maximum 20Mb

A jury will make a choice from the entries at the end of March 2019. The jury consists of: Hugo Borst (Rotterdam art lover and collector), Emily Ansenk (director of the Kunsthal), Jantje Steenhuis / Wanda Waanders (City Archives) and Ove Lucas (CBK Rotterdam).

The fee for the city draftsman 2019 is € 5.000 per artist. Read the terms and conditions here.

The drawings will be presented in the Kunsthal at the end of 2019. Afterwards, the drawings will be included in the City Archives collection.
