Publication: Apropos Art

On the occasion of Art Rotterdam 2019, CBK Rotterdam compiled an English-language magazine that sheds light on Rotterdam's visual arts. In Apropos Art tell fourteen artists from Rotterdam who recently received a contribution as part of the Research & Development (R&D) scheme about their work. Vivian Sky Rehberg narrates in her essay Trust about her experience of Rotterdam as an art city.

The design of Ben Laloua / Didier Pascal takes you through the visual arts in Rotterdam's public space to the visual arts of the Rotterdam artists. The artists show their work and talk about their professional practice and the role that this R&D scheme played in it. An arrangement that allows artists to research and experiment, an arrangement that supports and encourages the professional practice of Rotterdam visual artists. The magazine Apropos Art gives a nice look at the versatile nature of the visual arts in Rotterdam. This is characterized by the one as no-nonsense and straightforward. By the other as intuitive, unconventional and adventurous. Whatever the case may be, at least the (visual) art is an important motor for the impetus that is being ascribed to present-day Rotterdam.

With contributions from Otto Snoek, Alexandra Roozen, Johannes Langkamp, Milos Trakilovic, Abigail Prade, Amy Suo Wu, Pilar Mata Dupont, Sandim Mendes, Mette Sterre, Priscilla Fernandes, Johan Kleinjan, Wouter Venema, Rory Pilgrim, Hans Wilschut, en Dirk van Lieshout. Apropos Art is presented during the artist talk which CBK Rotterdam organizes in the Reflection Room of Art Rotterdam, on 7 February at 15: 00 hour, and is thereafter available in a very limited edition.
