Diereneiland at the Amelandseplein

The islet in the pond of the Amelandseplein in Charlois was transformed into one earlier this year animal sanctuary by visual artists Karolien Helweg and Ruben Lacruz. After a 'tour' along the islands in Amsterdam's city parks, 13 scrap wood 'wild' animals found a new place in Zuid. The relatively unexplored island area in the pond of the Amelandseplein has temporarily been assigned the 'artwork in public space'. On Wednesday afternoons, educational activities are organized around the Diereneiland in collaboration with schools in the area.

The Diereneiland was commissioned by BKOR in Rotterdam and can be seen until the end of 2018.
