New R&D committee member

Niekolaas Lekkerkerk is the new committee member of the R&D committee. The other committee members are: : Lisette Schumacher, Frans van Lent, Julia Geerlings and Tonio de Roover. The Development and Research Subsidies (R&D) scheme is aimed at boosting research and deepening so that existing artistic practices can develop optimally and their visibility can be increased. The R&D scheme is a subsidy scheme for individual artists.

Niekolaas Johannes Lekkerkerk (1988, Rotterdam) works as an independent curator and writer The Office for Curating in Rotterdam and is currently Artistic Director of the Poppositions art event in Brussels. He received his bachelor's degree in Art History at the University of Utrecht and then the master's program Curating the Contemporary at London Metropolitan University in collaboration with the Whitechapel Gallery. In his practice, Niekolaas is mainly concerned with social and political discourse on daily living and working practices, cultural norms and ideologies. Within this he is particularly focused on debates about the Anthropocene, ecology and climate, post-humanism and the increasing intertwining of nature and culture. He is currently finalizing the book The Standard Book of Noun-Verb Exhibition Grammar, a publication about the exhibition as an ecological field. In 2012 he received the inaugural Demergon Curatorial Award and in 2014 he was the beneficiary of the Akbank Sanat International Curator Competition.
