Kleinpolder art park

A new step is being taken on Thursday 5 July in the development of the art park under Kleinpolderplein. Last year, the Observatory and the Center for Visual Arts Rotterdam festively unveiled the basic design under the flyover of the highway, including an empty row of pedestals. Now come the first two of the long-awaited images. They are orphan sculptures that have lost their place in the city due to area developments and the demolition of buildings. Rotterdam is a city in motion and a lot of art is drifting as a result.

The sculpture park below Kleinpolderplein will be a tribute to the reconstruction, of which the highway above is a symbol. This post-war construction period has shaped Rotterdam to a large extent and is now being demolished. A sculpture park with art from the last century can help to keep the memory of the city intact. On July 5 a sculpture from 1937 by Han Rehm will be placed here and the image The Multiple Shapes, by an unknown maker.
