Relocation notice: The CBK and the Art library continue separately

After more than 30 years, the Center for Visual Arts Rotterdam (CBK) 28 will move in March from the Nieuwe Binnenweg to a new home on Witte de Withstraat (entrance to Eendrachtsstraat 10). Kunstuitleen Rotterdam, part of the CBK, continues independently from the CBK. The Kunstuitleen remains on the Nieuwe Binnenweg 75 and the external art depot is housed there. As a result of the cutbacks, both organizations are continuing in a slimmed-down form.

The cuts in the cultural sector have also hit the CBK hard: 11 of the 35 employees are being fired. This can partly be achieved through natural progress, unfortunately forced redundancies are also unavoidable. Over the past few months, the CBK has worked on a new interpretation of the organization and will focus in the coming years on an opinion-making position in the Rotterdam art field, through the deployment of three related programs: presentations in TENT, Public Collection Space (including Sculpture International Rotterdam) en Art Office (cultural entrepreneurship, R&D grant and assignments).

CBK headquarters in the cultural heart of Rotterdam
With the relocation of the CBK to the NRC building on Witte de Withstraat, the CBK is located on Rotterdam's contemporary art street. With TENT across the street and a lively cultural offer from Worm, MAMA, Witte de With, V2_, Scapino Ballet and Ro theater in the street, the CBK actively contributes to developments in Rotterdam's art life. More than ever before, the CBK has set itself the goal of strengthening and stimulating the art climate of Rotterdam and is in the right place to do so.

Through sharp negotiations with the municipality of Rotterdam, the Art Lending can remain on the Nieuwe Binnenweg. The extensive and varied collection offers art lovers a low-threshold platform, where there is room for creativity and entrepreneurship. The retailers and local residents are very positive that the Art library can remain on the Nieuwe Binnenweg 75.

The CBK in 2013
Despite the cutbacks, a lot is planned in 2013: among other things, the completion of the Monument for the Abolition of Slavery in June, a manifestation around the work of Louis van Roode during the reconstruction week in September and the extensive solo exhibition of the Rotterdam based artists Castro & Ólafsson until the beginning of May in TENT.

About the CBK
For more than 30 years, the CBK has been providing a lively art climate in Rotterdam as a meaningful workplace for talented artists. The CBK works on the city of Rotterdam as a stimulating meeting place for concerned citizens and visitors who are fond of art. Consult the website for the latest information: www.cbkrotterdam.nl.
