Finnissage Summer Salon

Saturday afternoon 1 September festively closes the first Summer Salon of Rotterdam South with an award ceremony. Director CBK Rotterdam Ove Lucas presents the Summer Salon Prize and the public favorite is announced by Ernst-Jan Walraven Borst of the IJsselmonde district, Integration, Art and Culture, Social Cultural Work and Participation portfolio holder. The best artist of the Summer Salon wins a solo presentation at the CBK Rotterdam.

At the opening of the Summer Salon, the jury nominated three artists: Photographer Jeanette Melsen, graphic artist Thijs Lansbergen and video artist Marco Douma. During the finissage, the director of the Center for Visual Arts will announce which artist he will award the Summer Salon Prize: a solo exhibition at the Center for Visual Arts Rotterdam. It is also announced which artist is the audience favorite; the visitors voted enthusiastically.

For the Summer Salon, creative Rotterdam South was invited to hand in its work on the selection day. From the 80 applications, 57 professionals and leisure artists with their photos, paintings and sculptures were selected for the exhibition. A jury consisting of Hans Walgenbach, director of Museum Rotterdam, Hidde van Schie, Rotterdam artist, and the international artists' duo GIL & MOTI chose the works that, in the jury's opinion, are representative of the artistic zest for Zuid.

The IJsselmonde district welcomes every presentation opportunity of artists from the district, and therefore supports the Summer Salon.

The exhibition is organized by the Center for Visual Arts Rotterdam and TENT, in collaboration with SBAW Cultuurscouts.
