Centre for Visual Arts Rotterdam

Welcome to Rotterdam, a city that has a lot to offer in the fields of art and design. Much of which you will find strolling the city’s streets, with sculptures by Picasso, Cosima von Bonin, Paul McCarthy, and many others; the museums and galleries; the artist initiatives; and the street art thrown at you as a gift from facades and walls. The abundance of talented artists working in Rotterdam is impressive. The city houses a strong and diverse network of visual artists, artist run spaces and collectives. Together, these Rotterdam based visual artists – around 2000 in total – represent a global community, participating in artist groups, artist initiatives, and residencies worldwide, creating a vibrant art scene and a vibrant city.

Especially for our non-Dutch speaking visitors we gathered some information on what we have to offer in the field of the visual arts when visiting Rotterdam.

1. Art in public space

Rotterdam features numerous and special works of art outdoors. Scattered all over the city, magnificent sculptures are on display to the public; free of charge, 24 hours a day.

For additional information about Rotterdam’s collection of public art, visit www.sculptureinternationalrotterdam/en/, which displays part of all art works in public space, or get one of our art maps at the Tourist Information.

The staff at the Rotterdam Tourist Information at Coolsingel, Central Station and Hoek van Holland are ready to give you information and inspiration to turn your visit to Rotterdam into an even more enjoyable experience. They can provide you with different art maps from CBK Rotterdam. With these maps you can compile your own art walk through the city and discover and enjoy the richness of visual art in Rotterdam – and the way in which people in Rotterdam are constantly surrounded by it.

2. TENT Rotterdam

TENT is the platform for contemporary art in and related to Rotterdam. In TENT on the Witte de Withstraat, you will find art exhibitions, new productions, art education, performances and events with artists both from the city and elsewhere. Rotterdam’s vibrant urban culture is the basis for TENT’s activities, informing their engagement with topics and developments that matter in this city, as well as in the world around it.
